CBD VS CBDA: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

The difference between CBD and CBDa all comes down to their chemical structure. CBDa is the precursor to CBD, CBDa turns to CBD when heated.

  • CBD (cannabidiol) is a wonderful natural botanical compound found in the hemp plant. It’s made when heat is applied to CBDa (changing its molecular structure). This is known as the decarboxylation process.
  • CBDa is the acidic precursor (or raw state) to CBD. When the hemp plant (cannabis sativa) is in the growth phase it produces CBDa – and only after heating or aging under the sun does the CBDa transform into CBD. Our Oil contains acidic cannabinoids you only find in the raw natural hemp plant.

A second purification then takes place, separating the CBD from the other remaining phytonutrients until the desired purity is reached. After the CBD Oil is extracted, it goes through a further process in which all of the different compounds, flavinoids, plant waxes, trace amounts of THC removed. There is absolutely no THC, the psychoactive part of the plant. But there are small amounts of the terpenes Myrcene, Limonene, Alpha & Beta -pinene, Linalool, B-caryophyllene, Caryophyllene oxide, Terpinolene, and Humulene. This is important because of what’s known as the entourage effect - the special synergy between the different botanical substances in the plant that can augment the effect of CBD. However, the levels are low enough to make THC Free CBD Oil an attractive solution for someone with a sensitivity to terpenes.
